Correctional Officers. Nurses. Laborers. Physicians. On the surface, they may not have much in common, but all of these positions and many more are available through the State of West Virginia.

The West Virginia Division of Personnel (DOP) in collaboration with Workforce WV is preparing for its 5th Annual State Government Career Fair on Wednesday, May 18th. The fair will take place in the Great Hall at the Culture Center from 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM. Employers covering the spectrum of state government jobs will be available to provide recruitment information to potential employees.

"It's a great way for us to promote state government jobs," said Mary Jane Ayoob, Manager of Recruitment and Research for DOP's Staffing Services. The recruiter will learn about the potential employee while this person will learn all about the specific agency and what it has to offer. Ayoob notes that this is particularly important for critical needs jobs, which can be harder to fill, especially long term. These statewide positions occur most often in healthcare and correctional facilities.

The career fair has been successful in the past and last year alone, 18 full-time critical need positions were eventually filled due to the information presented that day.

"This year we hope to place even more qualified candidates," said Jimmy Davis, DOP's recruitment outreach specialist.
